Created by Harry Ryle Hopps in 1917, this propaganda poster was used for enlistments for the United States Army during World War I. The poster depicts a terrifying gorilla wearing a helmet marked “militarism” holding a gory mace marked “kultur” and a half-naked woman as he storms the coast of America.
