Gem Bazaar was founded by Stephen and Emma Plunkett in 2018. Emma is the designer and she was born and brought up in India where Gem Bazaar jewellery is sourced. Her passion for India and for gemstone jewellery started at a young age through visits to the Tibetan jewellery shop in the New Market in Kolkata. She has been working in jewellery for over 20 years. Stephen's background is in finance and customer service and he too has a life long passion for jewellery. Together, they have a vision for curating and creating jewellery that reflects the many moods of a woman: from hand crafted, unique pieces reminiscent of the heirloom jewels passed down from Emma's grandmother; as well as bold and modern statement jewellery for special events in life; alongside very wearable everyday rings and earrings featuring beautiful semi precious gems. These days all gemstones are considered precious as they are all rare and their supply is limited. Nothing complements a woman's skin like a gemstone, and many gemstones have also become associated with certain healing properties over many hundreds of years. Gem Bazaar pieces are set mainly in silver with 18k gold vermeil and regularly use about 50 different gemstones. All silver and gold is recycled, as our the gorgeous silk bags hat are recycled silk sarees. The hallmarks of Gem Bazaar jewellery have always been style and value; creating glamorous gemstone jewellery for the contemporary woman which looks far more expensive than it actually is.
