Bolga shopping basket, original braided

The beautiful Bolgamand is a traditional, handmade product from Bolgatanga in Ghana. The basket is made from savanna grass that grows wild in the forested regions of Ghana. Savannah grass is supple, sturdy and durable. Size 35-40 cm. Making one basket takes almost a whole week! The grass blades are first sorted, then split and rolled up. Then they are colored in the desired shades. A weaver then needs an average of three days to weave the basket and finish the leather handles. At the end of the day, every Bolgamand has a piece of the heart and soul of Africa in it!
