The finesse of Eri silk and the artisanal weaving technique offer a wide variety of weaving from the finest to the thickest. Eri silk collections, the “peace” silk Wild silk extracted from the cocoon of the butterfly Cynthia Riccini. Its large cocoon, whose colors range from white to golden red, is naturally opened by the caterpillar to facilitate its metamorphosis; the silk is therefore harvested in a non-violent way, without killing the chrysalis, then spun and woven like wool. This “peace” silk is used by Buddhist monks in India, Bhutan, Nepal and China. The artisanal technique of weaving on hand looms offers a wide variety of weaving from the finest to the thickest. Weavers sector in Calcutta, India Karawan has been involved with an Indian local development organization for more than 7 years. It brings together around 200 manual looms distributed in village houses around Calcutta. The majority of artisans are women, from spinning to weaving. This know-how is ancestral and each home has a loom which plays an integral part in the daily life of the house. We develop our collections with Shubha, a young Indian imbued with the roots and excellence of the Indian textile tradition. She knows all the stages of manufacturing and coordinates the quality of our proposals with the aim of maintaining the tradition but also of making it evolve by adapting it to our creations.
