The cocoon is naturally opened for the caterpillar's metamorphosis. The silk is therefore harvested in a non-violent way, without killing the chrysalis, and is thus used by many Buddhist monks. Very high quality craftsmanship combines the work of breeders, women who spin silk and artisan handloom weavers in the far north-east of India. The finesse of Eri silk and the artisanal weaving technique offer a wide variety of weaving from the finest to the thickest.
