Kenya Maasai Grains

Fruity and gourmet coffee with a rich body, with citrus notes supported by rhubarb, honey and caramel.    Species: 100% Arabica Region: Mount Kenya Variety: K7, Kiambu Altitude: 1900 m Harvest: October to March Harvest Type: Manual Process: Kenyan Washed Drying: Drying bed ABOUT This selection comes from small productions in the center of the country, south of Mount Kenya, on the high plateaus of the "Kiambu" appellation.   The plots reach up to 1900 meters above sea level.    Kenyan producers are generally small owners.   2/3 have an average of 300 trees and produce 1000 to 1500 kg of cherries per year.   The remaining third owns what we call in the jargon “Estates” which are grouped into cooperatives.    The cooperatives are in charge of preparing the coffees, after receiving the freshly harvested cherries from the producers.   The process then carried out is known as "Kenyan washing" or "double washing".    Combined with Kenyan varieties, like the k7 here, this preparation method has given the country one of the most prestigious places in the world of specialty coffees, with coffees with brilliant acidity for many years already.    THE MOUNT KENYA REGION The Mount Kenya region is the highest point in Kenya (5,199 m) and the second highest peak in Africa behind Kilimanjaro.   It is located in the center of the country, just south of the equator, 150 kilometers from the capital Nairobi.   Mount Kenya is a red volcano born three million years ago.
