Genmaicha (japanese tea)

Genmaicha (gemmaicha) is a green tea (sencha, often with matcha) mixed with fried brown rice. Rice grains burst during the roasting process, so they look like popcorn. The sugar and starch in rice give the tea a thick, nutty flavor and a warm aroma. Genmaicha originated centuries ago within the walls of Buddhist monasteries, where monks mixed green tea with brown rice stuck to the bottom of their rice pots as a sign of humility and frugality. In addition, it is believed to have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the stomach.  Spring harvest 2020.    In appearance: thin, flat, green tea leaf tubes and fragments, brown and white foamed rice grains.
