Considered a surrealist masterpiece, 1946's "The Son of Man" is one of René Magritte's most emblematic paintings. Its depiction of an otherwise ordinary man wearing a bowler hat sweeps us off our feet with its obscure and mystery-filled details – what's he hiding behind that impossibly green apple? And that dark, cloudy sky, what kind of storm is it bringing?
