These Eco Maximus elephant dung writing sets are full of colour and fun – perfect for elephant lovers everywhere! Made by Eco Maximus in Sri Lanka, from elephant dung and recycled paper these stationery sets are an ideal gift for someone who wants something a bit different! The writing sets contain 10 sheets of A5 paper and 5 ungummed envelopes, all made from elephant dung paper, and come complete with a natural tea wood pencil. All the paper is made from 25% recycled paper and 75% elephant dung – yes really! The sets come in a range of colours. Only natural dyes are used and the paper is acid-free. Dimensions: 18 x 28 cm (Sheet size A5) Due to the handmade nature, the exact scene might vary slightly from the image. There is a serious side to these stationery sets though. Eco Maximus's aim, through the Maximus conservation trust, is to educate the local communities on the plight of the Sri Lankan elephant and to eventually live together in harmony. The ultimate in recycling, elephant dung is collected and boiled to sterilise it before the paper-making process. As unique as the animal that helped to produce it, each piece of paper is different depending on the diet of the elephant. Improving the outlook for the majestic elephants of Sri Lanka, Maximus has its workshop in the grounds of the Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF), a wonderful small charity that cares for sick, old, and disabled elephants. Working with initiatives like Maximus, the foundation is able to show the positive relationship local economies can have with these amazing animals, and work towards resolving the conflict between the elephants and the local communities as they turn to eating farmers’ crops as their natural habitat is destroyed.
