Who is Katherine Johnson? Katherine Johnson, née Katherine Coleman, Also known as (1939 - 1956) Katherine Goble, (born August 26, 1918, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, U.S. - died February 24, 2020), was an American mathematician who calculated and analysed the flight paths of many space crafts during her more than three decades with the U.S. space program. Her work helped send astronauts to the moon. Katherine Johnson was one of the first black students integrated into West Virginia's graduate schools. She was rejected by NASA the first time she applied. However, she applied a second time the following year and made it in. She helped send the astronaut John Glenn into orbit. She helped send the first men to the moon with her precise calculations. She contributed to plans for a mars mission.
