Nekemte Melaku, Oromia Commercial Director Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union Oromia Coffee Farmers Coop Union (OCFCU) was established in 1999 to deal with the coffee crisis. She counts today 357 cooperatives and 300,000 members. OCFCU provides technical support and financial and serves as a price regulator on the local market. Its action is unique because it is about the cooperative with the most members. His importance gives it a certain influence to the government in its action advocacy in favor of producers. OCFCU is very attentive to the place of women and has more than 40% in his team. Wholesale efforts are being made to train members, forest protection and constant improvement in water quality. The coffee culture is always associated with other food crops on small plots of 0.5 hectare on average. Thanks to the premium of fair trade and the social fund of OCFCU, more than 200 projects have been completed, including 28 constructions of schools or classrooms and 36 water purification projects.
