Named after the Ottoman Sultans for whom this dried delicacy was prepared. These small morsels of sweetness almost burst in your mouth with an intense fruity flavour. Grown on the plains of Manisa, sandwiched between the mountains and the coast, the sultanas are grown and preserved the same way they have for centuries. Laid out to dry in the late summer sun, the drying process is a slow and steady one, but an essential one. For once dried, these sultanas can be enjoyed for many months, while the table grapes grown for eating fresh have long since been finished. Slightly different from regular raisins, Sultanas are 'dipped' in and organic oil before drying. This process allows the fruit to dry quickly, which results in a yellower colour and a more plump fruit. Sultanas have a more delicate flavour than raisins. The speedy drying means the taste is more similar to that of the original grape rather than that of the raisin. Our Organic Sultanas are mixed with a small amount of organic sunflower oil during the cleaning and sorting process. This allows the fruit to be processed much more easily and also avoids clumping during packing and storage.
