Massep or African basil (Ocimum gratissimum) is a tropical basil from the Lamiaceae family that is native to Central Africa. The antioxidant found in African basil is rosmaniric acid which belongs to the group of polyphenols. Flavonoids and phenolic acids with antioxidant properties are also present in basil.
