I’m Mandy, a life-long budgie-owner and bird lover. Via my own pet budgies I found a way to express my love of colour in nature. After several years of life-drawing and portraiture, flesh gave way to feathers, and in 2016 Budgerigardener took flight!
My artwork portrays pet birds, parrots and tropical birds in colour and detail. Oils are my preferred medium for building up real depth of tone with a painterly approach, but I also use acrylics for my more modern graphic style.
I have always felt that budgies are under-served in fine art, and ill-served by popular culture in general. My aim is to afford them the same reverence afforded to other pets and wildlife. I am also keen to raise the profile of welfare and conservation issues affecting wild and captive birds.
Budgerigardener also offers some popular wildlife and pet subjects to broaden the range.
