Honduras Coffee Beans, Velvet - 1kg - Specialty Coffee

This Honduran coffee bean comes to us from the Copan and Marcala regions. This is a generous and powerful specialty coffee. It has notes of licorice, cocoa and nuts. A full and velvety body. The terroir This specialty coffee, grown in Honduras from the Bourbon rouge and Catuaï varieties, comes from small plantations located in the Copan and Marcala regions, at altitudes varying between 1,300 and 1,800 meters. Coffee trees grow there in shade, promoting both their growth and the preservation of biodiversity in a forest environment. Producers The Capucas and Comsa cooperatives, pioneers in sustainable development, social initiatives and ecotourism, use modern infrastructure to process coffee. In addition to this, they diversify their agricultural activities by growing honey, lemongrass and organic vegetables, thus contributing to food security and local employment. Ecotourism also plays an important role in these regions, known for their biodiversity and indigenous heritage. Drying method The coffee is processed using the "washed" method in a modern facility where the coffee cherries are sorted to ensure batch homogeneity and perfect maturity of the beans. Varieties The cultivated varieties are Bourbon rouge and Catuaï. Labels This coffee is purchased at a price significantly higher than that of the world market, and is certified fair trade by the SPP label, a system managed by the producers themselves. Environmental responsibility Waste water from the washing process is collected in a basin where it produces biogas, which is then used to power small machines. The cooperative also has its own hulling plant, which transforms coffee into green beans, ready for export. COMSA's educational project Faced with the lack of education in the isolated region of Marcala, the cooperative has developed an educational center offering alternative teaching methods, such as the Doman method for learning to read, the Montessori method for children's autonomy, and the Steiner method for discovering the environment.
