Cantal elevation map

Cantal is a department located in the heart of the Massif Central (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region), this part of Auvergne corresponding to the Haute-Auvergne region, historically more mountainous and less populated. This poster is a 2D print. Format: 50x70 cm The Cantal department borders the departments of Corrèze, Haute-Loire and Puy-de-Dôme to the north, Haute-Loire and Lozère to the east, Aveyron and Lot to the south, and Lot and Corrèze to the west. Its main towns are: Aurillac (prefecture), Saint-Flour, Arpajon-sur-Cère, Ytrac and Mauriac. The Cantal department takes its name from the main mountain range that covers it. In fact, it is a mid-mountain department occupied mainly by the volcanic massif of Cantal and its foothills. This massif is a remnant of an ancient volcano with a diameter of almost 60 km (the largest in Europe). Its current highest point, the Plomb du Cantal, reaches 1,855 meters. The massif forms an almost perfect circle whose slopes rise and converge towards the center. In this center there is an immense cirque which must have been the ancient crater. HAS On the Plomb du Cantal side, we find Puy Mary (1,783 meters), Puy Chavaroche (1,736 meters), Puy Violent (1,592 meters) and Puy Griou (1,690 meters).
