Kebbeh was born in The Gambia. He has known the woven baskets since childhood. In West Africa, they have many functions: storing dowry for the wedding, storing fruit, bread and other groceries, and much more.
Kebbeh founded Jakarasi in 2021 and brings a piece of his country to Berlin with the baskets and keeps in touch with his family and friends in Gambia through the basket trade.
The baskets are made from seagrass, which is a durable and rapidly renewable material for weaving.
