Allspice

Allspice is a spice native to the island of Jamaica. It gets its name from its distinctive flavor reminiscent of a blend of spices, including cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Allspice is obtained from the dried berries of the Pimenta dioica tree. The berries are harvested while still green and immature, then they are sun-dried before being ground into a powder. Allspice is used in many cuisines to add flavor and aroma to dishes. It is commonly used in marinades, stews, sauces, meats and vegetable dishes.
