Currants

Corinth grapes are small dried grapes from the Vitis vinifera “Corinth” grape variety.  They are originally from Greece and their name refers to the city of Corinth.  These grapes are very small and have a soft, chewy texture.  They are generally used in the preparation of pastries, cookies, muffins, sweet breads and desserts.  Currants add a sweet flavor and fruity note to recipes.  They are rich in antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals, including potassium and iron.  Currants can also be eaten as is as a healthy snack or added to salads or cereals for added flavor.
