Made By McDuff is the brand behind the artist, Sonia McDuff, whose aesthetic combines a love of nature with a fun and gentle activism; by highlighting the beauty in our surrounding botanical world by way of ‘blueprint’ cyanotype photograms.
These eye catching greetings cards feature actual representations of what we see in nature. There is no uniformity here, except the simple elegance of a humble flower.
The botanical works featured are made carefully, over time, which produces the exquisite tones in the resulting images. By highlighting these particular wildflowers, McDuff acknowledges the need to pay attention to the natural world around us.
During the first lockdown of the global pandemic, whilst the world was in slow motion, McDuff pursued a long held curiosity in cyanotype photography, a Victorian method which creates ‘blue prints'. This coupled her passion with photography and created the opportunity to document this profound time through nature.
Collaborations with other makers have been to create smaller lines. Though greetings cards are the first of McDuff's production made available to retailers around the world. Public artwork on a larger scale from the technique is in motion, which is directly as a result of sales from the brand. Made By McDuff is circular!
There are 36 designs to choose from and are left blank inside to create your own message. They are A6 in size and are supplied with a fleck envelope and bamboo 'cello' for packaging.
Sustainability is key. These cards are made with FSC accreditation, made within 15 miles of Made By McDuff's HQ and printed using natural inks. The artwork itself is created almost on the artists doorstep with biodiversity as its primary concern.
