Native to North America, this mammal is the largest of its species after the polar bear. Its dark brown coat has shades of blond, brown and black, but it is the gray tips of its hair that gave it its name (from the English "grizzled" which means grizzled). This omnivore lives alone and feeds mainly on plants (berries, roots, etc.). However, it sometimes devours fish, ants, bees or young mammals such as elk. To survive the winter, the grizzly bear feeds intensively all summer, then returns to its den and begins hibernation from November to March.
