Spinosaurus or "spiny lizard" is among the longest known dinosaurs, measuring up to 18 m long, 6 m tall and weighing up to 9 tonnes. Easily recognizable by its very large dorsal spines, it is assumed that it had a veil that served as a thermal regulator. Spinosaurus, which lived in the Cretaceous period, was both carnivorous and piscivorous. Both long, narrow and equipped with numerous straight teeth, the skull of Spinosaurus is similar in shape to that of crocodiles.
