The Pteranodon is one of the most famous pterosaurs. This flying reptile lived on Earth in the Late Cretaceous period, 70 million years ago. With a wingspan of 7 to 9 meters, it moved by gliding above the oceans to fish in the same way as our current pelicans. Its jaw is toothless, suggesting that this very good fisherman swallowed fish whole. The crest on its head counterbalanced its elongated beak, and its skeleton must have been light because of the thin, hollow bones in its wings.
