Acrocanthosaurus, a member of the theropod family, was a large bipedal predator that could measure up to 12 meters long and weigh 7.2 tons. Its name, which means "high thorns", comes from the spines ending its vertebrae. It is believed that they were used to attach long chains of muscle to the predator's back, hips and neck. It also had a long, powerful tail that allowed it to counterbalance its head and body, as well as small forelegs ideal for capturing and holding prey while hunting.
