The loggerhead turtle is a great swimmer that mainly frequents the temperate waters of the globe. It measures about one meter and weighs almost 100 kg. Its flattened shell consists of a reddish carapace contrasting with its yellow plastron. It has a long head and a horny beak that is very useful for grinding its food (corals, crustaceans, mollusks, small fish, etc.)).Its broad legs are perfectly adapted to swimming in the open sea. The forelegs are used for propulsion while the hindlegs act as rudders. Grouped in their hundreds, loggerhead turtles migrate and travel several thousand kilometers to reach their nesting grounds. Did you know that when laying eggs, the loggerhead turtle lays more than a hundred eggs which it covers with sand? Each female lays eggs only every two or three years.
