Alfalfa is rich in mineral salts such as calcium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc; vitamins such as beta-carotene, vitamins B and C, essential amino acids and fiber. Contains saponins (2-3%), flavonoids and sterols. It has remineralizing, toning and hemostatic properties, increases appetite and aids growth. Alfalfa is traditionally recommended as a tonic for indigestion, dyspepsia, anemia, loss of appetite, and poor assimilation of nutrients. Its saponin content reduces cholesterol and prevents the formation of atherosclerotic plaques (causing atherosclerosis).
