Rich in alkaloids, particularly boldine (approximately 30%), flavonoids, glycosides and essential oils (eucalyptol); all the active principles of boldo act synergistically mainly in the liver. It is choleretic (increases bile production), cholagogue (accelerates gallbladder emptying), a potent hepatoprotective and eupeptic (facilitates digestion). It is also slightly laxative and diuretic.
