Who is Malala Yousafzai? Malala Yousafzai was born in July 12, 1997 in Pakistan. When Malala was around ten years old, the Taliban took over the region where she lived. As the Taliban gained more control, they enforced new laws. Women would not be allowed to vote or have jobs and the girls schools would be shut down or else they'd been burned or destroyed. So malala decided to speak up and so she wrote a blog called "the Diary of a Pakistani Schoolgirl" for BBC. Eventually the goverment took back control of the area and Malala was able to return to school. But the Taliban were not happy with her, so one day when she was coming back from school on the bus, the Taliban shot her in the head. However she was sent ti UK for emergency surgery and she survived. in 2013, she published her first book, I AM MALALA Malala is now a world-renowned Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest ever Nobel prize laureate. July 12, which is also her birthday, was declared by the UN as MALALA DAY in honour of the young activist.
