Diplomatic and gracious Librans like to strike the right balance between their emotions and their practicality. With this in mind we’ve paired holy basil, pandan leaves and rose with blood orange, lime leaves and sandalwood. To tie it all together, the bitter components are dandelion and gentian root. Coconut sugar is added for balance. Bitter-tasting food and drink are gaining popularity as we recognize the sweetening of our culture has not served us well. With their long history in the healing arts in Asia and the Indian subcontinent, we in the west are rediscovering the health benefits of bitter tastes. The bitter components in food work with the bitter taste receptors on our tongues to stimulate the production of gastric acid in the stomach, readying it for ideal digestion. The better your digestion, the more nutrients your body will absorb from your food. So three cheers for hoppy craft IPA’s, 80% chocolate, radicchio and arugula, and even the astonishing bitter melon (hint: don’t let the melon part fool you.) To complement our new-found appreciation of bitter, House Five is pleased to present our delicious aromatic bitters, to enhance your drink and food recipes. WE WANT TO HELP YOU REAP THE BENEFITS of bitters, to enhance your drink and food recipes.
