Our Ceylon cinnamon tastes aromatic, sweet, pleasant, warm. It tastes less fiery than the Cassia cinnamon varieties. It is therefore suitable for rounding off drinks, desserts but also meat and vegetable dishes. It mixes well with vanilla and cloves, as well as coriander and nutmeg. The bark strips of the cinnamon plant roll up during drying and turn into “cinnamon sticks”. The thinner the bark, the finer the aroma of the stick. Ceylon cinnamon has been considered an extremely valuable spice for thousands of years, and the cinnamon producers on the island of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) have therefore been plundered for this spice for centuries. It is called “caneel” or “Ceylon cinnamon”. In the food industry, Chinese cinnamon is mainly used, which is obtained from the cinnamon cassia plant (Cinnamomum cassia).
