James Joyce

James Joyce (1882 –1941) was an Irish writer known for his experimental use of language, which is evident in his famous novel Ulysses. The novel is considered one of the most significant novels of the 20th century. He had an early interest in writing as well as language, and learned Norwegian Bokmål to be able to read the works of Henrik Ibsen, whom he looked up to, in the original language. Joyce himself was also devoted to his writing and always wanted to challenge himself. He wrote verse and experimented with short passages of prose that he called "epiphanies", which was also the word Joyce used to describe the moments when the truth about a character was revealed in his stories. Industrial designer Jan Landqvist is responsible for the idea and design of Novellix bookends. The bookends are made in Gnosjö in Småland and are made of cut and bent sheet steel that has been treated with a black, durable powder coating. The dimensions are 15×15 cm for the portraits and 10×15 cm for the base plate. Designer: Landqvist, Jan
