Stig Dagerman

During the Swedish 40s, Stig Dagerman was one of the most tone-setting writers, even though he was only active for a few intensive years. He debuted with the novel Ormen (1945), which is a loosely connected story with horror as its theme. A year later, his second novel was published on the same track, De dömdas ö (1946), which has been described as the most difficult Dagerman wrote. The language of the novel was inspired by William Faulkner while the symbolism is reminiscent of Franz Kafka's style. In addition, Dagerman wrote two further novels, several short stories, plays, poems and reportage. Today, there is the literary Stig Dagerman prize named after him, which is awarded to writers who, in Stig Dagerman's spirit, have worked to protect the importance and accessibility of free speech. Industrial designer Jan Landqvist is responsible for the concept and design of the series »Swedish literature support«, Landqvist has many years of professional experience from Gustavsberg's factories and has designed everything from porcelain for bathrooms to giftware and plastic products. The bookends are made in Gnosjö, Sweden and are made of cut and bent sheet steel that has been treated with a black, durable powder coating. The dimensions are 15x15 centimeters for the portraits and 10x15 centimeters for the base plate. Designer: Landqvist, Jan
