The manta ray is the largest of all ray species, reaching up to 9 meters in wingspan and weighing nearly 3 tons. It lives in tropical waters, often not far from coral reefs. What characterizes this completely peaceful and harmless planktivorous creature is, of course, its two large fins or "wings." Its black back contrasts with its white belly on which are arranged 5 pairs of gills. It has two particularly impressive horns in front of its head, which have earned it the name "sea devil". Their function is to direct water towards their mouth to filter it and feed on the seed it contains. Particularly graceful, the Manta ray moves in groups of a few individuals and sometimes allows itself to be approached by divers.
