This delicacy comes from the island of Taiwan and is popular and appreciated worldwide. Its rolled leaves form small, solid balls. In the cup it presents itself in a green-golden color, its aroma is characterized by peach blossom-like fruitiness. Its name and history Oolong means something like "black dragon". The Formosa Jade Oolong is more similar to green tea than black tea. Due to its slight oxidation, it combines the taste and health benefits of both varieties. A Chinese legend tells of a tea farmer who was frightened by a fearsome dragon during the harvest and fled in horror. It took a few days before he found the courage to return to his plantation. The picked green leaves had now oxidized a little and been sun-dried. The tea that the farmer, who was not inclined to waste, prepared with some scepticism tasted, to his pleasant surprise and boundless relief, quite wonderful. And the hideous monster to whom he owed his discovery was henceforth the namesake of this speciality. This is without a doubt a beautiful, imaginative and wildly romantic story. In reality, it was more of a sober matter that loose green tea began to oxidize on its own during the long transport routes through the mountainous landscapes of China. Around the year 1800, oolong tea finally became known in Taiwan. How to prepare it: Brew three to four teaspoons of the globules with one liter of boiling and slightly cooled water and let it steep for three minutes before pouring the golden, fragrant liquid through a sieve. Just like green tea, we recommend that you make several infusions. Then let it brew for a very short time, no longer than about a minute. Its ingredients: The caffeine content is only moderate, in contrast to its proportion of valuable cell-protecting antioxidants. Vitamins A, B, C, E and many minerals and trace elements such as potassium, carotene, copper, manganese and selenium are among its health-promoting components. Storage and shelf life: If you keep the tea away from heat sources, dry, airtight and protected from light, you can store it for at least a year without any loss of quality. Atmospheric oxygen and direct sunlight are not good for it; the packaging in which our products are delivered protects it from this. If you would like to transfer it to another container, for yourself or as a gift, we have a decorative tea caddy that would be a great choice. Make yourself or a loved one happy. And above all: enjoy this exquisite tea!
