For our products we use sustainably sourced cotton from local farmers on Java. The fields are naturally fertilized and the cotton bolls are harvested by hand. After ginning, the cotton is pressed into bales, combed and spun into yarn by hand. Our cotton is skin-friendly and free from chemical processing and is therefore not suitable for tumble drying. ➤Our production partners: Strictly selected according to fair trade criteria When selecting our local production partners, we attach importance to fair pay, safe working conditions and reasonable working hours. We work exclusively with small family businesses that have a maximum of 20 to 30 employees. They are exclusively adult and experienced artisans. Older people in particular, who can no longer work in agriculture, benefit from jobs in handicrafts, as they can use the skills they learned at an early age to earn money and pass on traditional manufacturing methods to the younger generation. They often told us how happy they were to be able to create something meaningful and earn a good living through this work. Since all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process hardly produces any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies. ➤The manufacturing process: From raw material to finished pillowcase Light, undyed cotton is used for our handmade Anarka pillowcases. On traditional looms, experienced artisans at our production partners on the Indonesian island of Java use the thick yarn to create a dense, high-quality fabric, which is then sewn into square pillowcases. The delicate palm tree pattern is carefully embroidered by hand with light blue yarn before a discreet zipper is incorporated on the back for easy handling. In total, the production of a single pillowcase takes about 1.5 hours.
