The project provides a safeguard for Mount Elgon National Park and Central Forest – one of the most diverse ecosystems in Africa – by reducing pressure on resources. The coffee rewards farmers in and around Mount Elgon to protect the forests by planting trees and reducing a dependency on clearing forests for firewood, which in turn protects hundreds of animal species including forest monkeys and antelope.
