Small Elephant Dung Photo Frame

Our eye-catching elephant picture frames are adorned with a hand-cut brass elephant motif for the elephant lover in your life. A unique gift made from 75% elephant dung (yes, really) and 25% recycled paper, it is also one of the most sustainable gifts that you will find. The small size frame is designed to fit a 3.5 x 3.5 inch photo. Two other sizes available: Medium and Large. Please see our other listing pages. Please be aware that these frames do not come with a glass or plastic front. This is in order to cut down on unwanted waste materials and to make sure that the frame is 100% recycled. Simply slide your chosen photo into the slot at the top of the frame. Made from genuine elephant poo (don't worry, it doesn't smell) it also helps to reduce global waste and makes a difference in the communities that produce it. The charity that makes our frames helps look after old, disabled or sick elephants and educate the local residents on the need to conserve the Sri Lankan elephant population. The process of making elephant dung paper is a little different to making regular handmade paper. The fibres are pulped by the elephant, instead of by hand or machine, while they are digesting, then the readymade pulp comes out the back! The elephant dung is collected then vigorously boiled with margosa leaves, which are a natural disinfectant. They are then mixed with 25% recycled paper, resulting in our beautiful elephant dung paper. The coarseness and shade of the paper is entirely dependent on the elephants’ diet, making each sheet as unique as the elephant that produced it.
