Chateau Montdomaine Le Breton Cabernet Franc 2020

The Loire is rarely associated with rosé or red wine. And yet there is an abundance of red wines and rosés along the Loire that have secretly become the pinnacle of the avant-garde in France in recent years. Most of these wines are made from the Cabernet Franc grape. Unlike the related Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc is rather fine, powerful, but less "bombastic". Most sommeliers love this grape variety and celebrate it for its spiciness, its ability to age and its multifaceted nature. All of this can be perfectly illustrated with this example. Extremely dark in the glass and more violet than red. Almost impenetrable and dense. The nose is something truly special and allows conclusions to be drawn about the gentle, low-sulphite expansion. Dark forest berries, cedar wood, violets and something malty, which is very reminiscent of natural wine. The wine absolutely needs some air and would like to be carafed or decanted. A real firework on the palate! The tannins are incredibly well woven in for such a youthful red. This shows again that there was hardly any sulfur and only the healthiest grape material was used. Be sure to enjoy this characterful red wine a little cooler. Aromas of dark berries such as blackberries and blueberries, but also some cassis, come to the fore on the palate. At the back follows the slight maltiness, or that note of flor yeast, like with dry sherry; No wonder with less than 10mg added sulfur. Conventionally produced wines sometimes have up to 120 mg added sulfur. With "naturals" it is generally less than 40mg. The aftertaste is medium long. This wine is more than worth its money and a real asset for wine specialists. Certainly a thinking wine, as we like to say here. It's not a wine that stays on the palate forever, but you shouldn't expect that here. Let this charming Cabernet Franc from the red Loire convince you. The vines are 25 years old and stand on a kind of slate-limestone with portions of flint.
