Design and digital humanities

By studying operations and technical systems potentially open to research, this essay questions the relationship of design to “digital humanities” which have been developing, in the French-speaking context, since the mid-2000s. digital technologies update the modes of production and transmission of knowledge? What is the place of designers in projects in the humanities and social sciences? From the modeling of knowledge to the injunction to innovation and creativity, from the design of experience to technical conditioning, from the study of digital rationality to the reconfiguration of subjectivity, this reflexive journey shows that the industry of programs, every day a little more powerful, has not exhausted the whole range of possibilities. By questioning and revealing the technical environment in which digital humanities operate, the work of digital techniques through design thus shows that there is room for other modulations, other sensitivities, other cultures.
