GUAYAPI Purple Corn is the result of an innovative fair trade partnership initiated by the government of Peru with GUAYAPI aimed at promoting native biodiversity, including producer organizations from the Cusco region. Maize Mauve GUAYAPI is a variety of ancestral maize, grown in the heart of the ancient empire of the Incas. This autochthonous corn gets its amazing color from anthocyanins, violet pigments with many virtues. Peru is one of the world's lands of origin for maize, with nearly 700 indigenous and peasant varieties identified. The Andean country is home to Purple Corn crops in respect of these noble terroirs, on rich soils and in biodiverse environments, in respect of traditional crops.
