Caraway has a distinctive, intense, sweet-fruity and slightly bitter taste. It is somewhat reminiscent of anise and fennel, with which it is related as an umbelliferous plant and can be easily combined, for example in tea blends or as a bread spice. Caraway is a classic spice for difficult-to-digest foods, such as: B. Cabbage and rich meat dishes. Its effect is best achieved in combination with fennel and anise, e.g. B. as a tea for babies or as an ingredient in breastfeeding teas, as caraway stimulates the production of breast milk. There are large differences in the quality of caraway seeds; good quality is indicated by a distinct brown color and the distinctive semicircular shape of the seeds. It is recommended to store the caraway seeds as a whole, protected from light and in a cool place, as the aromatic substances evaporate relatively quickly.
