Having lived in Africa for more than 7 years, we wanted to create a brand that would put African communities front and centre.
Africa produces 70% of the world’s cocoa, but less than 1% of finished chocolate. This injustice inspired us to make each and every value-added MIA product in Africa, from start to finish. MIA is proud to be the world's first company to make bean-to-bar chocolate in two African countries: Ghana and Madagascar.

At the cocoa farm, we pay at least 150% of the Fairtrade premium, but this is just the beginning of the MIA story. Cocoa does not leave Africa. It is crafted into delicious chocolate by local communities, creating more jobs and more prosperity. Making chocolate in Africa creates benefit beyond cocoa farms by also benefiting skilled jobs in printing, chocolate making a box production. The total impact is up to five times the impact of exporting cocoa beans.
What started as an idea is now a cause that is shared by friends, family and customers around the world: to make delicious chocolate that improves lives in Africa.
