The hydrangea macrophylla, Hydrangea in Latin, is a great classic of shade gardens. Originally from Japan, it grows near the coast, in a mild and temperate zone, which explains why the Breton climate suits it so well. However, what is certain is that the “blue white red” flag was imposed in July 1789 to mark the political transition from the monarchy to the sovereign nation. Hydrangea macrophylla, the hydrangea, belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family, the original species is a coastal species from Japan. If Hydrangea macrophylla is the one that can be described as our grandmothers' hydrangea, many current cultivars have largely renewed the range of flowers, bringing new colors and new textures, and therefore a renewal in the interest of gardeners for this species. Hydrangea macrophylla appears in the form of a regularly branched shrub with a rounded shape. Its deciduous leaves are opposite, entire, large, with a crenate edge. The inflorescences develop on the previous year's wood in large rounded flower heads. These flower balls theoretically include fertile flowers in the center and sterile on the outside. However, in the hydrangea macrophylla, following a mutation, all the flowers have become sterile, and show 4 sepals in the shape of petals: the flower balls are very round, very numerous on a subject in good conditions.
