Reserve Du Couvent 2021

Lebanese red wine is sometimes described in the thick wine books as a blend of Bordeaux and Rhône. The winemakers at Chateau Ksara have taken this very literally with this blend of Syrah (typically Rhône), Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (typically Bordeaux). Bordeaux (Cabernet Sauvignon), Rhône (Syrah) and Loire (Cabernet Franc) meet in the Bekaa. A rendezvous with few awkward silences. With its strong spiciness of laurel and rosemary, it seems more like Rhone than Bordeaux. But the comparison is actually meaningless. The spices, spiciness, ripe red and black fruit and mild tannin are especially 'typical Bekaa Valley'. The Bekaa Valley is the most important wine region of Lebanon, both in terms of quality and quantity. The terroir is ideal for agriculture and, in particular, for viticulture. Unlike the rest of Lebanon, where it can be hot and dry, the climate here is temperate.   Château Ksara is the oldest and largest winery in Lebanon. It was founded in 1857 by Jesuits. It was not until 1972 that the monks sold the winery. Since then, it has been extensively modernized. Today, Château Ksara produces contemporary wines from mainly French grape varieties.    Powerful dry red wine Country: Lebanon Region: Bekaa Valley Grape: 40% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaker: Château Ksara Alcohol: 13.5% Vol.   Drinking temperature: 18° C Ready to drink: 2023 - 2028 Contents: 750 ml.
