Off Road #02.1 - Barbados & Jamaica Navy Rum - 59% - 50cl

OFF ROAD 02.1 THE NAVY.. SAILED! Vagabond Spirits presents its second vintage from the Off Road range, the creative rums! It is important to specify that this project took several months, before even being able to consider its realization. Thank you to the actors of this project for helping us to carry it out, a series of trials that ends in euphoria! We had no precise idea of the final taste result, given that dynamic ageing, or rather “High Sea” in our case, is a historical type of breeding, but nowadays too little used. We do not intend to revolutionize this method of breeding, but rather to begin to explore it, for new vintages to come! Blend of 66% Barbados 3 years old ex BB and 34% Jamaica 4 years old ex BB. Casking in October in Ex Beaumes de Venise ex Australian rum casks, 150L at the start. Departure of the cargo ship from Dunkirk at the beginning of November 2022. Return of the cask to France after 3 months of transat in early February 2023, to Roscoff after routing through New York and the Dominican Republic. The ship left France exported French organic wine to the United States, repatriated humanitarian equipment to the Dominican Republic, before returning to France loaded with cocoa and coffee, all in a completely carbon-free manner. Our cask went through this crossing being loaded on the deck of the ship, where it suffered the brunt of the natural elements. Extreme temperature changes, constant humidity, transatlantic storms, high heat and tropical climate of the islands, sea spray... It is currently impossible to compare this trip to a dynamic breeding as found in other bottlers, but the current dynamic is largely done in the hold. The share of angels in dynamic breeding is around 6 / 8%, we have on our side accused a share of angels (or mermaids!) of around 14%! In addition, the loss of alcohol amounts to about 4%. We can estimate that this “High Sea” breeding has increased the aging of our rum tenfold, taking into account the previous elements, given what the barrel has been through! On his return he was indeed very marked by his trip.. Tasting! We find Barbados very frank on the nose, the coconut comes first on the nose, without hesitation! Beaume de Venise blends lightly, without taking over, with honeyed notes, soft, melted wood. Jamaica also points its nose, candied fruits, compotes, pear, apricot, bitter orange zest, granny apple. Fruit, fruit! Round mouth, alcohol thickly coats the palate, Jamaica is much more present than on the nose, we find the markers of cigar box, fresh hay. Australian rum also appears, these notes of "earth", drier, worn on the leather, we find the liquorice stick of our childhood.
