EDOUARD DELAUNAY-BURGUNDY COTE D'OR PINOT NOIR 2020

The Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation is a new appellation created from the 2017 harvest. It intends to offer the quintessence of regional appellations in Burgundy with grapes coming exclusively from the best terroirs of the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, philosophy to which Maison Edouard Delaunay adheres without reservation. Two-thirds of our cuvée comes from a selection of Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune (Pommard, Pernand-Vergelesses and Chorey-les-Beaune) and one-third from Côte de Nuits (Fixin). The original plots are exposed to the south-east and occupy the bottom of the coast, on soils composed of clayey alluvium, silt and gravel. These terrains are generally deep and allow the wine to express both richness and power, but also elegant and fruity notes. Harvested by hand, the grapes have undergone rigorous sorting. A short cold maceration to extract the fruit and the color is followed by vatting for a dozen days. As with the Grands Vins de Bourgogne, this wine is aged 100% in oak barrels for nine months (15% new barrels). Very nice deep red color. Expressive and complex nose of ripe cherry and fruit paste (blackcurrant) accompanied by a balsamic note of pine sap and a little smoke which gives the aromas a little wild touch. Scents of bark and bramble, of wet earth after the storm followed by essences of noble wood (oak) and a touch of Russian leather. Very nice attack on the palate with good acidity and good concentration. Very promising wine, rich and complex, with beautiful tannins that are still a bit angular and will reveal themselves with time.
