EDOUARD DELAUNAY-BURGUNDY ALIGOTE WHITE 2020

Long overlooked, the Aligoté grape variety is being reborn thanks to the work of a few passionate winegrowers. It is important for the house of Edouard Delaunay to take its place in this revival. Our Aligoté is a terroir wine, a plot selection from a single plot of vines cultivated a few hundred meters from our winery. This wine comes from a parcel of old Aligoté vines planted by Laurent Delaunay's former oenology professor, Professor Feuillat. Located on the historic hill of Vergy which faces the Château de Charmont, this steeply sloping plot faces south-east at an altitude of between 420 and 450 m, on very calcareous white earth soils. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Abbey of Saint-Vivant whose monks created and operated the famous Romanée Saint-Vivant in the Middle Ages. This abbey is currently safeguarded and maintained thanks to a major sponsorship operation in which the Delaunay family, very attached to this site, actively participates. This is the last plot harvested by the house in September 2018. The grapes, harvested by hand, were at perfect maturity with a high acidity content as befits this variety. After a light pressing, the fermentation started in vats then the must was sung in order to finish its vinification in barrels of 2, 3 and 4 years. The short aging lasted 4 months, on the lees with regular stirring. The bottling was carried out early, after the malolactic fermentation, in order to capture the beautiful fresh and floral aromas of the wine. Beautiful pale yellow color, very pretty nose imbued with purity, expressive notes of nettle, freshly cut herbs, touch of lemon, tangerine, fruit basket. Taut and chiselled wine, straight, extremely refreshing. Very nice attack on the palate, alliance of freshness and maturity, mineral notes of flint and a finish of barley sugar.
