Once upon a time, a long time ago, between 1700 and 1800, between the two branches of Lake Como, in a small town called Canzo, there was a sorcerer, alchemist, healer, herbalist and pharmacist. He was known to all as “Scannagatta”.
Scannagatta experimented, mixed, invented, studied in search of the right proportions that would make his recipes a panacea for those who needed them. It was from this intense research activity that the first of a series of recipes developed by him, linked to the world of spirits, was born: that of Vespetrò Speciale.
The success of Vespetrò pushed Scannagatta and his successors to develop recipes for over a century that reflected the tastes and trends of the eras in which they were created, making them an esteemed and recognized reality of Lake Como.
From this evocative story comes the idea of bringing back to light recipes forgotten over time, rediscovering their flavors, exploring innovative production methods and respecting the environment and raw materials.
The spirit of the alchemist and inventor of Scannagatta merges today in the concept of the Nuova Scannagatta S.r.ls. which is to innovate the world of old spirits by combining in a seemingly antithetical way ancient recipes that are no longer in use in Italian territories - starting with the recipes of the Scannagatta family that recall the history of the province of Como over the last 2 centuries - with innovative and creative production methods and futuristic commercial solutions.
The first two products brought back to life are the Vespetrò Speciale and the Amaro del Ghisallo.
