Moa Martinson

The outspoken and controversial Moa Martinson has become a pioneering figure in proletarian literature. Her first novel, Women and Apple Trees (1933), attracted much attention for its realistic language and sexual frankness. The working woman that Martinson portrays is both bound by her biological destiny and active in changing her conditions. Martinson's writing has partly fallen into oblivion, but was rediscovered by the women's movement in the 1970s. In 1982, Sällskapet Moa's friends was formed to preserve and protect her writing and life story. Industrial designer Jan Landqvist is responsible for the idea and design of the series »Swedish literature support«, Landqvist has many years of professional experience from Gustavsberg's factories and has designed everything from porcelain for bathrooms to giftware and plastic products. The bookends are made in Gnosjö, Sweden and are made of cut and bent sheet steel that has been treated with a black, durable powder coating. The dimensions are 15×15 centimeters for the portraits and 10×15 centimeters for the base plate. Designer: Landqvist, Jan
