Originally from Anxi in Fujian Province, this tea is known throughout China and takes its name from Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy and compassion. There are two legends about how this tea got this name. According to one of them, Guan Yin told a poor farmer in a dream where to find a treasure that turned out to be this tea. In another legend, a scholar found a tea plant at the foot of the Guan Yin rock in Xiping and served this tea to the emperor who, of course, worshiped it. It doesn't matter which one is true because with its floral, citrus, peach, vanilla and grassy notes, this tea is equally suitable for emperors and goddesses as it is for ordinary mortals.
